Education

I went to high school in Texas and was an Assistant Drum Major in my high school band. On the concert side of things I placed in Freshman Region Band, and in All-District, All- Region, and All-Area Bands for grades 10th,11th and 12th and I placed in the All-State Band my senior year. I was also successful in Solo & Ensemble both at the Region and the State level. In college I was the only Freshman clarinet player that made Wind Ensemble. I played in both the Wind Ensemble and the Symphonic Band for four years. In marching band I marched with I was on the color guard for four years and I played cymbals my fifth year. During this time I had the wonderful opportunity of studying clarinet with Ralph L. Mills (student of Mitchell Lurie) , Randall Griffin ( Houston Ballet) and Richard Pickar (Principal Clarinetist of the Houston Symphony at the time). Since my degree would be in Music Education I studied trombone with Frank Woodruff ( Houston Ballet), trumpet with Gary Pollard, and music theory with Fisher Tull composer). These lessons were in addition to taking Brass class which is required of all students. To further my educational studies I had the opportunity of taking a graduate class on Gifted and Talented Teaching from June Scobee. I graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor in Music Education and a Masters in Music and Secondary Education. I made the Dean's List during all my semesters of college.

Experience

I have taught private clarinet lessons for over 20 years in ten different school districts that are primarily located in the suburbs of Houston, TX In addition, I have taught beginner band using homogenous grouping for almost my entire public school teaching career. I gain much self satisfaction from seeing students take the knowledge that I have provided, watching them apply it and gaining success on their instrument. Being able to witness this growth in a short period of time is truly awesome. Not many subjects provide this opportunity. For this is the reason why I want to tutor students. It is a wonderful experience for me a the tutor and a fantastic learning experience for the student. During my senior year I received an award called Notable Woman of Texas.
